While caught up in the frenzy of the moment of childbirth, Mark and Lindsey Lashley participated in a group text message announcing the birth of their baby to a few friends. One of the texts went to a wrong number, but instead of complaining about getting a text message from a person they did not know, the recipients decided to join in the festivities and showed up to congratulate the new parents.
Dennis Williams and his brother arrived at room 130 at the Bainbridge Hospital in Georgia bearing a gift for the newborn baby when she was born last year, after asking where the couple were staying in the hospital. The 229 area code suggests that everyone involved lives in or around Albany, Georgia.
According to the New York Daily News, the story began when the Tallahassee, Florida brothers received the accidental text from the couple notifying them of the good news.
With all of the reports about racial intolerance, debates over inequality, and demands for equal treatment, this typical American story is color blind and driven by human kindness. The brothers are black and the couple is white.
The Facebook post that followed the heartwarming story tips the reader off to a bond much stronger than similar skin color. “Many blessing[s] I pray for you” said one friend about the odd encounter.
It’s no wonder that racial division isn’t found in Southern communities as often as in Northern metropolitan areas. The increased number of Christians and those who aren’t afraid to admit their faith seems to drive people down a path of true tolerance and brotherhood.
While the story itself has nothing to do with skin color, the difference in skin color is something that can’t be avoided in the story any more than the obvious bond Christians have with one another.
Please share this story on Facebook and Twitter to not only spread this heartwarming story, but that belief in Christ is a peaceful and loving bond that’s far more important than the shade of skin color that someone has.
