We live in a dangerous world, and it is always best to be prepared for any circumstance, even if danger seems a remote possibility. One jogger in Seattle was prepared, and it may have saved her life.
Kelly Herron, 36, was out training for a marathon when she stopped to use a restroom. When she was inside, Gary Steiner, 40, a registered sex offender, attacked her, ABC News reported.
“He immediately took me down to the ground, hit both my knees and legs, and then it was a fight on the bathroom floor, and I just kept screaming, ‘Not today, m*****f*****,’” Herron recounted.
After being beaten for several minutes, Herron remembered a self-defense class she had taken just three weeks earlier — a class that had prepared her to deal with men like Steiner.
“All those little things that I learned in my life … how to punch and everything came back to me,” Herron explained. “I started to feel like I was going to lose consciousness … but I got another surge of adrenaline, and I reached for the door and was able to get out.”
There are a lot of horrible people in this world. Thankfully, we live in a country where people can have the means to fight back, either through self-defense classes or through the Second Amendment.
