Josh Earnest, White House press secretary under former President Barack Obama, was recently asked about allegations that the Obama White House unlawfully wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential election.
During an interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz, Earnest started by saying the claims that Obama “ordered a wiretap” were false, but when Raddatz pressed him on the issue, his response was telling.
When asked to “categorically deny” that the Obama Justice Department “monitored” Trump Tower during the election, Earnest refused to do so.
When the former press secretary dodged the question, Raddatz asked him again, but he never gave a definitive answer.
“Here’s the simple answer to that question, Martha,” Earnest said. “I don’t know, and it’s not because I’m no longer in government.”
He contended that even when he was “in government,” he was not in a position that required him to be “regularly briefed on an FBI criminal or counterintelligence investigation.”
Watch Earnest’s comments here:
That, plus the fact that he continually dodged questions about the situation was further evidence that an investigation into the situation has become imperative.
Not to mention the fact that every statement from the Obama White House or members of his administration has been clear that Obama did not “order” the wiretap, yet they have said nothing about whether he knew about the wiretap or approved it.
