Veterans Protest College That Stopped Flying American Flag

Hampshire College in Massachusetts made the news last week when it was announced that the college would no longer fly the American flag because a bunch of triggered snowflakes decided to burn one after the election.

This action didn’t sit too well with a group of American veterans who sacrificed to defend that flag, Mass Live reported. The veterans organized a protest at the college over the weekend and chanted “USA! USA!” according to The Associated Press.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno joined the protests to support the veterans and expressed his disgust at the action taken by the college, The AP reported.

“(The mayor will) attend in support and stand in solidarity with our cherished veterans and our American flag in protest of Hampshire College’s continued refusal to fly the flag, which is so disrespectful to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in order for all of us to live the lives we lead,” said a statement released by his office the day before.

CNN reported that college spokesman John Courtmanche said the flag was removed because some members of the college community found it distasteful.

“We’ve heard from members of our community that, for them and for many in our country, the flag is a powerful symbol of fear they’ve felt all their lives because they grew up as people of color, never feeling safe,” Lash said.

The Boston Globe’s article about the protest included many photos showing that almost all those in attendance were holding American flags. Even more interesting, the protest was peaceful, unlike so many across the country voicing displeasure at the election of Donald Trump to the presidency.

No stores were looted. Police weren’t attacked. See, these patriotic Americans knew how to hold a reasonable protest to show their displeasure with something.

Liberals could take a page or two out of their book.
