Twitter Users Fire Back After ‘Hamilton’ Cast Lectures VP-Elect Pence

The cast of “Hamilton” fired the first volley with one actor lecturing Vice President-elect Mike Pence Friday night.

Now the American people are firing back.

Angered by the disrespect shown to Pence, Twitter users have made #BoycottHamilton one of the top trending hashtags on Twitter.

The fuss began Friday when Pence attended a showing of the Broadway hit. Although there were some cheers, Pence received more than a few boos as well when he arrived.

After the show, actor Brandon V. Dixon told Pence from the stage that the cast represented those “alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir.”

The speech was not, apparently, spontaneous but was written by show creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, director Tommy Kail, and producer Jeffrey Seller.

Although the scolding might come as no surprise, given that the cast supported Hillary Clinton in the election with a fund-raiser, some felt it crossed a line.

Although some commentators noted that the show is sold out for the next two years, others suggested that the protest is about more than tickets.

“Where’s the respect? Oh, yeah. ‘Liberal’ and ‘respect’ don’t jive,” commented John S. Roberts on Young Conservatives.
