Trump’s New Ed Secretary Is HUGE Fan of Charter Schools… Will Terrify School Union Fat Cats

President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Betsy DeVos, a school choice advocate, to be the secretary of education in his incoming administration.

“Together, we can work to make transformational change to ensure every student has the opportunity to fulfill his or her highest potential,” she tweeted, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Union leaders and liberals were not at all pleased — with good reason. Charter schools probably the single biggest threat to teachers unions, because they are rarely unionized and therefore their employees don’t pay union dues — while drawing students out of schools whose employees do.

Trump is very optimistic about the future of America’s education with DeVos on board.

“Under her leadership we will reform the U.S. education system and break the bureaucracy that is holding our children back so that we can deliver world-class education and school choice to all families,” he said in a statement, according to Fox News.

For better or worse, the education system in America is headed for change, as DeVos said in her own statement.

“The status quo in education is not acceptable,” she said, according to CNN.

But the best sign that she’s the right person for the job might be the immediate outcry against her from the left.

American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, for example, was none too pleased with the cabinet pick, telling Fox News that DeVos “has no meaningful experience in the classroom or in our schools.”

“The president-elect, in his selection of Betsy DeVos, has chosen the most ideological, anti-public education nominee put forward since President Carter created a Cabinet-level Department of Education,” he said. “In nominating DeVos, Trump makes it loud and clear that his education policy will focus on privatizing, defunding and destroying public education in America.”

Sounds like a plan to me.
