Trump’s Incoming CIA Head Has History of Calling Out Iran

President-elect Donald Trump’s choice of Kansas Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo for CIA director has garnered praise from many Republicans and others with keen knowledge of his work, and will likely terrify Iran, given Pompeo’s tough stance on the nation the State Department has identified as the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism.

Pompeo has served on the House Intelligence Committee and according to multiple sources, including The Washington Free Beacon, he gained a strong reputation with Republicans for his tough investigations into President Obama’s notoriously secretive Iran deal.

Thanks to the multiple investigations by Pompeo, we now have documents which showed that the almost $2 billion given to Iran came on the heels of multiple secret meetings engaged in by the Obama administration.

On Friday morning, Pompeo accepted the offer to head the CIA. Pompeo, who must be confirmed by the Senate before officially taking the post, discussed his acceptance of the position in a statement: “I am honored and humbled to accept the president-elect’s nomination to lead the Central Intelligence Agency.”

“This was a difficult decision. I have genuinely loved representing the people of Kansas in Congress — working to make our community stronger and more prosperous. But ultimately the opportunity to lead the world’s finest intelligence warriors, who labor tirelessly to keep this nation and Kansas safe, is a call to service I cannot ignore.”

“I want to thank the people of the 4th District, who entrusted me over the past six years to be their voice in our nation’s capital. I will continue to represent you in this new post with the highest level of honesty, integrity and vision.”

Mark Dubowitz, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told the Free Beacon: “Pompeo has led the way in Congress against a nuclear deal that gives Iran patient pathways to atomic weapons, nuclear-warheads-carrying ballistic missiles and regional hegemony,” Dubowitz said.

“He will bring deep knowledge of the Iranian threat and the ways to use all instruments of U.S. power, including covert action, to counter Tehran’s malign activities.”

Not only did Pompeo aggressively investigate the ransom payment made to Iran, he also led legislation to stop similar payments to Iran in the future and worked to ensure that the foremost state sponsor of terrorism wouldn’t see a penny until U.S. terror victims had been thoroughly compensated.

Pompeo’s stance on Iran, his background and stellar support from colleagues and others knowledgeable about his work, bode extremely well for the future of the CIA and mark what appears to be another excellent pick by Trump.
