Trump Vows To Trim Down Over-Staffed Govt. Agencies

Prior to the 2016 election, then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump promised his supporters that if elected president he would “drain the swamp.” Specifically, he released a “Contract for the American voter” that contained a litany of “measures to clean up the corruption and special interest collusion in Washington, D.C.”

Recently, President-elect Trump began working with his Republican Congress to bring these measures to fruition, as reported by The Washington Post.

“Hiring freezes, an end to automatic raises, a green light to fire poor performers, a ban on union business on the government’s dime and less generous pensions” were just some of the ideas being drafted, according to the Post.

Of course the liberal Post described these plans in a nefarious light, claiming they would “erod(e) job protections and grind() down benefits,” but as former House Speaker Newt Gingrich explained, draining the swamp was mandatory.

“We’re going to have to get the country to understand how big the problem is, the human costs of it and why it’s absolutely essential to reform,” he remarked.

Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz added that under President Barack Obama, federal bureaucracy had grown by such leaps and bounds that it had become “nearly impossible to fire somebody.” This had to stop for government to shrink and become more efficient.

Moreover, by shrinking government, Trump would only be giving the American people what they wanted. A Gallup poll published last month revealed that a 54 percent majority of Americans favored smaller government.

Trimming the fat off the government’s beefy belly would no doubt hurt some people, but the fact remained that the federal government should never have been permitted to grow so massive in the first place.
