President Donald Trump paid his respects to the family of a fallen officer who lost his life in the line of duty during a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 90 on Jan. 24.
Cleveland police officer David Fahey, 39, was killed while setting out road flares, WKYC reported.
The mainstream media probably won’t give this much attention, but Trump sent a condolence letter to Fahey’s mother and stepfather, Jackie and Mark Letterer, who are themselves retired police officers.
In the letter, Trump said it was with a heavy heart that he learned of Fahey’s death. He went on to say that our nation owed a “debt of gratitude” to Fahey for his service.

“It was awesome to have David honored like that,” Jackie Ketterer told Cleveland.com. “It was very personally written. That meant a lot to know it wasn’t just a standard letter.”
“We were honored as police officers, and with so much anti-police stuff going on, to get something like that was special,” Ketterer said.
Ketterer added that Fahey was a Trump supporter and it would have made him happy to know that Trump had sent his family a letter.
Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association President Steve Loomis called the letter “an act of heartfelt kindness that is appreciated by all law enforcement officers and law-abiding citizens everywhere and will never be forgotten.”
Loomis also said that in the 24 years that he has been with the Cleveland police, this was the first time he had ever heard of a president contacting family members of a fallen police officer.
Fahey, a Navy veteran, had been with the force since July 2014, WEWS reported.
Court documents said Israel Alvarez, 44, was speeding when he hit Fahey and then drove away. Alvarez was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide and driving under the influence of cocaine, according to Cleveland.com.
Regardless of politics, this letter must have made Fahey’s family and the Cleveland police force very proud. It’s sad to think that much of the mainstream media won’t give this story the attention it deserves.
