Trump Saves Taxpayers 1 Billion on Air Force One Deal After Negotiations

By merely picking up the phone and contacting Boeing, President Donald Trump reportedly managed to save the American taxpayers approximately a billion dollars.

“We’ve got that price down by over $1 billion, and I probably haven’t spoken for more than an hour on the project,” he said Saturday during a rally in Florida, referring to the price to construct two new Air Force One planes, as reported by the Washington Examiner.

Documents released two months ago revealed that construction of the planes would cost American taxpayers approximately $4.2 billion.

That revelation did not please the then-president-elect.

After this news broke, Trump arranged a meeting with Boeing’s chief executive during which he extracted a pledge that the final cost would not exceed $4 billion, according to CNBC.

“We’re going to get it done for less than that, and we’re committed to working together to make sure that happens,” Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg said afterward.

If the claims Trump made Saturday are true, it means that he really has gone the extra mile to help American taxpayers save their hard-earned money. All it took was simply contacting Muilenburg, which apparently was far more than former President Barack Obama had ever been willing to do.

Despite this bombshell news, however, the president is still not exactly thrilled.

“Why they need two planes, we’ll have to talk about that,” he reportedly added during the rally.

As noted by TheBlaze, a second Air Force One plane exists to serve as a decoy, especially when the president is visiting foreign nations.

Trump also used his time at the lectern Saturday to slam the disastrous deal the Obama administration had made with Lockheed Martin to build F-35 fighter jets. Earlier this month the president reached a new and reportedly better deal that will reportedly save hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer money.
