Trump Names Immigration, Healthcare, And Jobs Among The Most Important Changes Coming To America

President-elect Donald Trump was in Washington, D.C., today for a series of high-level meetings intended to start the process of transitioning his upcoming administration into power.

After first meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House, Trump traveled across town to Capitol Hill where he held separate meetings with both House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to Politico.

Following the meetings with the two Republican congressional leaders, Trump briefly addressed gathered reporters, where he was asked what the priorities of the new GOP majority would be in Trump’s first 100 days as president.

“A lot of really great priorities. People will be very, very happy. Well, we have a lot,” said Trump. “We’re looking very strongly at immigration, we’re going to look at the borders, very importantly, we’re looking very strongly at health care and we’re looking at jobs. Big league jobs.”

Speaker Ryan spoke glowingly of his meeting with Trump, a stark contrast to their at times tense relationship during the campaign season.

“Let me just say how excited we are about these opportunities for the country,” Ryan told reporters. “We had a fantastic, productive meeting about getting to work, rolling up our sleeves and going to work for the American people.”

“We’re gonna turn that victory into progress for the American people,” he added. “And we are now talking about how we’re going to hit the ground running to make sure that we can get this country turned around and make America great again.”

Vice President-elect Mike Pence was by Trump’s side for the meetings with Ryan and McConnell, though he did spend some time meeting with Vice President Joe Biden and was scheduled to hold discussions with incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The inclusion of Pence in the various meetings seemed to indicate that he will play an integral role in the coming administration as a sort of liason between Trump and congressional leaders, an incredibly important role necessary for shepherding their desired legislation through the process of becoming law.

This is good news for those hoping for good relations between Trump and the GOP-controlled Congress and bodes well for the possibilities of achieving conservative success on the issues of immigration and border security, reforming health care laws and improving the economy.
