An executive order signed Saturday by President Donald Trump will authorize chief adviser Steve Bannon to sit in on National Security Council meetings, The Daily Caller reported.
The order, which reorganized both the National Security Council and Homeland Security Council, will enable Bannon to attend every meeting of both groups.
It would also mean he would be a regular on the NSC Principals Committee, a group that includes the secretaries of state, defense, homeland security and treasury, as well as the attorney general, presidential chief of staff, national security adviser, homeland security adviser and the assistant to the president.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff and the director of national intelligence also were limited to meetings “where issues pertaining to their responsibilities and expertise are to be discussed.” That decision, according to The Washington Post, was based in part on the fact that NSC “meetings were too frequent, too long and often inconclusive, and that officials were ‘tired of nano-management,’ (an) official said of Obama-era complaints that were well-reported at the time.”
It didn’t take long for the liberal media to question Bannon’s role — starting with the aforementioned Post article, portentously headlined “Questions multiply over Bannon’s role in Trump administration.”
If the title didn’t tip you off to the tone of the article, it didn’t take long for the folks at The WaPo to remove all doubt; in the second paragraph, Bannon is described as a man “whose nationalist convictions and hard-line oppositional view of globalism have long guided Trump.”
Remaining unmentioned until the story is three-quarters over, long after a laundry list of vaguely connected complaints about Bannon’s influence in the Trump White House — is a quote from White House press secretary Sean Spicer that Bannon “is a former naval officer. He’s got a tremendous understanding of the world and the geopolitical landscape that we have now.”
Naturally, liberals on social media took their cue from coverage like The Washington Post.
Let it sink in: US foreign policy now dictated by what white nationalist/anti-Semite Steve Bannon thinks will excite the Breitbart crowd. pic.twitter.com/DBbGbWbAjn

After a weekend of reading about Steve Bannon, I believe we’ve been attacked from within our own government.

When the media complained about Obama’s handling of national security and military matters at all, they complained only in the quietest and most deferential of terms. And, as the former president used to be fond of saying, let’s be clear: there was plenty to complain about.
Yet, the mere fact that Trump is giving Bannon NSC access has sent them into a tizzy. Funny how that works.
