Concerns about the Republican National Committee potentially dropping its support for presidential candidate Donald Trump evaporated this Monday when committee chairman Reince Priebus promised the very opposite.
“Nothing has changed in regard with our relationship,” he said during a conference call with other committee members, as reported by CNN. “We are in full coordination with the Trump campaign.”
“We have a great relationship with them,” he added. “And we are going to continue to work together to make sure he wins in November.”
Nice try though, #NeverTrumpers.
In defending his decision, Priebus pointed specifically to the GOP candidate’s stellar performance at the second presidential debate, where he dominated according to most independent accounts. He also addressed Trump’s latest scandal, which was a video from 2005 published Friday that showed him making lewd comments about women.
“Like all of you, I don’t condone what was said in the video,” Priebus maintained. “In fact, the campaign itself doesn’t defend the words in that video.”
Trump himself apologized for the video early Saturday morning. Hours later, his wife released her own statement forgiving her husband and also calling on the rest of America to forgive him as well.

The only ones still squawking about the video were either liberals or the GOP candidate’s “Never Trump” opponents, who it appeared cared more about constantly besmirching him than they did about ensuring Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton’s loss in November.
Actually, no; there was an additional set of bellyachers still causing ruckus over the video, and this set included establishment Republicans such as Rep. John Thune and Sep. John McCain, according to The Hill.
Apparently, they felt that their own personal ambitions ranked higher than the need for the Republican Party to take the White House back from the Democrats in January.
I hope the GOP base remembers this when it comes time to vote for their next batch of political leaders.
