The media have been rife with incidents of alleged hate crimes being committed by Donald Trump supporters. Some, as we’ve chronicled, have been false reports. That’s no excuse for whatever real hate crimes have been committed by sick thugs trying to falsely cover their barbaric acts in the cloak of conservatism.
President-elect Trump is sick of it too, and he told CBS such during an interview on Friday. However, the footage of Trump ordering anyone who supported him to refrain from any sort of hate crime and disavowing those who did was held back until Sunday, when the full interview aired on “60 Minutes.”
According to the Washington Free Beacon, CBS is now coming under fire for sitting on the footage until then, with many arguing that if the network really believed there was a rash of hate crimes being committed by Trump voters they would have aired Trump’s plea straight away.
The portion of the interview involves Leslie Stahl informing Trump that the media have been reporting said crimes and asking if he was aware of it. “I am very surprised to hear that. I hate to hear it,” Trump said.
“I am so sorry to hear it and I say stop it,” he said. Trump then looked directly at the camera: “And I say right to the camera, stop it.”

The Hill reported that CBS chose a different clip on Obamacare instead, with a spokesman from CBS saying, “We chose to release a quote on the issue that affects the most Americans (and) that was his statement on Obamacare.”
That explanation didn’t pass muster in the media. One of the most surprising critics was CNN’s Brian Stelter, the vehemently anti-Trump CNN anchor.

CBS is just one of the networks breathlessly reporting the “unrest” in the country on every newscast, reporting uncritically on every new protest and hate crime accusation.
We wholeheartedly agree that anyone committing a hate crime in any candidate’s name ought to be tried, convicted and thrown in prison for the longest period the law allows.
However, if CBS believed in their own coverage — if they really bought into the idea that America was tearing apart at the seams and vile racists were roaming the streets, looking for minority victims, somehow emboldened by Trump’s victory — why wouldn’t they have released this clip? Wouldn’t that have been much more urgent, considering the state of unrest?
It makes no sense — unless, of course, they didn’t believe a word of the narrative that they were spinning for America.
