President Donald Trump and the liberal media have always had a contentious relationship — to say the least. Now the relationship between a Trump staffer and a reporter has gotten decidedly personal after allegations of physical harassment have surfaced.
April Ryan, the White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks, has claimed that Omarosa Manigault, director for the White House’s Office of Public Liaison, got too close to her during a verbal confrontation the two had, The Washington Post reported.
Ryan also claimed that Manigault said the Trump White House had a “dossier” on journalists — a claim that White House press secretary Sean Spicer denied during Tuesday’s news briefing.
“She stood right in my face like she was going to hit me,” Ryan told The Post. “I said, ‘You better back up’ … She thought I would be bullied. I won’t be.”
So, Ryan got scared that someone stood close to her in a room of very loud journalists?
That’s pretty sad. From her own account, it almost sounds like Ryan threatened Manigault first by saying “You better back up.” Generally, that phrase is used by someone threatening to punch someone else.
CNN noted that Manigault provided a recording of the altercation that she claimed proved she didn’t physically intimidate Ryan, but much of the recording was inaudible because of background noise. In addition, the recording did not cover the entire incident.
The New York Daily News reported that tensions between the two onetime friends have been high since the campaign, when Manigault accused Ryan of being paid by the Clinton campaign, which was known to have cozy relations with some journalists. Ryan has denied that allegation.
Right now, the media are so biased against Trump that anything that is done by his staff will be perceived as some sort of threat. The media will quote any anonymous source they can, just to make the administration look bad, so why wouldn’t they blow some sort of verbal disagreement out of proportion?
Maybe Ryan needs to grow a spine and realize that just because someone is standing close to you that doesn’t mean they are going to beat you to a pulp.
