Overconfident Journalist Dares SEAL to Gun Competition Learns INSTANT Lesson

U.S. Navy SEALs are known for their unconventional training, astonishing expertise, bravery and overall toughness. Most people would never think of challenging one of them at anything.

However, one journalist wanted to know how he would fare against a SEAL when it came to shooting, and let’s just say he learned a humbling lesson regarding the skills of these highly trained warriors.

Journalist Jason Howerton happened to be in Nevada for a shooting, hunting and outdoor trade show in January, where he ran into Charlie Melton, a retired Navy SEAL sniper.

Howerton wrote that he challenged Melton to a friendly shooting competition. We already know that Navy SEALs are in a class of their own, but this SEAL has trained the best — including “American Sniper” Chris Kyle and “Lone Survivor” Marcus Luttrell.

Melton, who now operates Charlie Mike Precision, which offers long range rifle and pistol courses, had no problem accepting Howerton’s challenge.

It should be noted that last year, Howerton made the same challenge to Luttrell. In what the journalist described as a stroke of pure luck, he won that one.

Watch that competition below:

Not too shabby for a civilian journalist.

After such a stroke of luck, Melton might have felt a need to even the score and “return balance to the universe,” as Howerton described it.

And return balance to the universe is exactly what Melton did.

The rules of the competition were simple: one shot, with the shot closest to the center of the target winning. While Howerton got close, Melton got closer:

You can’t win them all — especially when you go up against a Navy SEAL.

Will Howerton challenge another SEAL to a friendly competition sometime? We’ll just have to wait and see. If he does, he’ll need to sharpen his shooting skills if he wants to beat the best.
