Talk show host Oprah Winfrey has been hired by CBS News to serve as a special contributor on 60 Minutes.
“There is only one Oprah Winfrey,” the show’s executive producer, Jeff Fager, reportedly said in a statement Tuesday morning. “She has achieved excellence in everything she has touched. Her body of work is extraordinary, including thousands of interviews with people from all walks of life.”
“She is a remarkable and talented woman with a level of integrity that sets her apart and makes her a perfect fit for 60 Minutes. I am thrilled that she will be bringing her unique and powerful voice to our broadcast.”
Oprah, who is known as the “Queen of All Media” over the success of her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show, which aired for 25 full years before ending in 2011, was ecstatic about the new gig.
“I’ve been a big admirer of 60 Minutes since my days as a young reporter,” she said. “I’m so excited and proud to join forces with this historic news program, which for me represents the bastion of journalistic storytelling.”
“At a time when people are so divided, my intention is to bring relevant insight and perspective, to look at what separates us, and help facilitate real conversations between people from different backgrounds.”
This notable desire to bring people together echoed what she had said after Donald Trump won the election last year.
“I could sense, maybe I’m wrong, but I could sense from Donald Trump’s body language even when he came out for the acceptance speech, that brotha has been humbled by this whole thing,” she told the Associated Press in an interview at the time. “I think it’s a humbling process that now you literally have the weight of the world on your shoulders.”
Likewise, she posted a tweet on the same day the interview was published encouraging disgruntled liberals to calm down and and not give up on hope.

There was a chance that CBS’ decision to hire Winfrey had been motivated in part by her willingness to be open-minded about Trump’s election victory.
If nothing else, the talk show host’s words showed her to be a reasonable and fairly objective observer who was not susceptible to liberal media hyperbole.
And since 60 Minutes has striven since in its inception in 1968 to provide its viewers with an objective overview of political events, it certainly fit that they would therefore hire someone capable of being exactly that — objective.
