New Poll Shows Nearly Half Of The American People Approve Of Melania And Ivanka Trump

Despite taking a lot of negative heat from some among the far left who have accused them of facilitating President Donald Trump’s alleged bigotry and misogyny, first lady Melania Trump and Trump’s eldest daughter Ivanka Trump both maintain a favorable reputation with the American people.

Specifically, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll published Wednesday revealed that 49 percent of the American people view Melania favorably, while only 32 percent view her negatively.

This marks a dramatic increase in favorability for the first lady, who during the previous summer had scored a relatively low favorability rating of only 28 percent, according to Gallup. It is believed that her favorability began to rebound after her speech at the Republican National Convention in July of last year.

As for Ivanka, 49 percent of the American people view her favorably, while only 30 percent view her unfavorably. In her case, her favorability has actually dropped by a point since the RNC last summer.

For the most part, though, it appears a large chunk of the American people have yet to form an impression of either Melania or Ivanka.

“While most have formed their opinion on Donald Trump, about 20 percent of voters still haven’t made up their mind about the First Lady and First Daughter,” noted Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult chief research officer and co-founder.

“That leaves open an opportunity for Ivanka and Melania to refine their public personas over the next few months as the new administration gets underway,” he added.

That being said, 51 and 45 percent of the American people want Melania and Ivanka, respectively, to take an active role in Trump’s administration. This desire could however present a problem.

Though Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner have relocated to Washington, D.C., the first lady has chosen to remain in New York City until the end of her son Barron’s school year. In fact, Melania reportedly returned to the city immediately after the inaugural weekend.

“The first lady thanks everyone for their support and a beautiful welcome to Washington,” her spokeswoman told CNN Sunday.

“She is returning to New York in advance of the school week and will be splitting her time between Washington and New York for the next few weeks.”

It is also unclear what Melania’s passions happen to be.

With Ivanka, it is well-known that she holds strong positions on the environment, equal pay and child care. During the presidential campaign last year, for example, she reportedly helped her father craft a plan to guarantee new mothers up to six weeks of paid maternity leave.
