When an outraged gun hater recently tore into renowned entrepreneur Mike Rowe for attending the annual Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade Show in Los Angeles and “associating with a bunch of gun nuts,” he fired back.
But instead of cudgeling the hater, Marla W., with some truth bombs, Rowe approached her with tact and dignity by outlining the purpose for his attendance, describing his first few days at the SHOT Show, then inviting her to accompany him as his guest before it ends on Jan. 20.
“I wanted to do something different for the millennials at mikeroweWORKS, so I called a guy I met through The SEAL Family Foundation, and asked if he could arrange a ‘non-traditional corporate team event,’” he wrote in a Facebook post. “Something that might allow my team to rub elbows with veterans …
“Well, it was a great day, Marla, and I wish you could have joined us,” he continued. “We started with skydiving … After that, we reconnoitered to an undisclosed location and introduced ourselves to Matt, Bobby, Jeremy, and Danielle – four SEALs who spent the last fifteen years getting shot at by bad guys and returning the favor — with far superior results.”
In other words, the so-called “gun nuts” were really good guys — military veterans, in fact, with incredible character and accomplishments serving their country. And the show was not just about gun enthusiasts meeting up for target practice. To learn more about the show, check outs its website.
“Obviously, you and I have a difference of opinion regarding the role of the Second Amendment, but thanks to the First Amendment, we can express our differences,” Rowe added.
Then he made an offer she shouldn’t refuse.
“As for you Marla – you can either stomp off in a cloud of righteous indignation, or you can accompany me to the SHOT Show as my guest, and see what all the fuss is about.
“Either way, it’s nice to have choices, don’t you think?”

Talk about a class act. Rowe, the former host of Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs,” could easily have made short short of Marla, chastising her every which way for her gross misperceptions about guns and those Americans who wield them.
Instead, he opted to be a gentleman. Good man.
