A gruesome video revealed where an Indonesian man who was missing for 24 hours had been, and it is as shocking as it is sickening.
Akbar Salubiro, 25, disappeared Sunday, having failed to return from harvesting palm oil, and reportedly turned up the next day in a very unfortunate location.
Villagers on the island of Sulawesi found a 23-foot-long reticulated python while searching for the missing man and feared that the snake might have eaten him.
A spokesperson for the police in West Sulawesi province said the villagers first saw an “unmoving python” in a ditch near the Salubiros’ garden.
“They grew suspicious that maybe the snake had Akbar. One hint that the man could have been the snake’s victim was the fact that Salubiro’s boots were visible in the python’s stomach.”
Pretty strong hint.
“When they cut it open, Akbar was inside the snake,” the spokesperson told the BBC.
As villagers began cutting into the snake, others began recording the grisly scene, The Jakarta Post reported.
Footage showed the python’s skin being sliced open to reveal the man’s corpse.
Village secretary Salubiro Junaidi said people could hear cries from the palm grove the night before Akbar was found.
You can watch the video here, but it is graphic, so viewer discretion is advised.
While pythons are not normally known to attack humans, this kind of attack is becoming more common as more humans settle near wildlife habitats.
Wahdi Azim, director of wildlife studies on the veterinary faculty of Syiah Kuala University in Aceh province, told The New York Times that the attack was “a rare case of a python eating a person.”
