Upon seeing a 17-year-old thug attempting to break into a parked car, an unnamed Texas homeowner reportedly picked up his shotgun and fired at the perpetrator, fatally injuring him.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. Sunday in Arlington, according to KRLD, which added that there was another thug present who managed to flee the scene after the shooting.
The perpetrator was reportedly taken to the hospital but died soon after.
A neighbor said that the people who lived at the shooter’s home reportedly owned a limousine service and usually had several cars parked outside.
Speaking with reporters, neighbors of the homeowner were just happy that the boy was not their son.
“It looked like him from far away,” one neighbor remarked to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Even after I saw that it wasn’t my son, I thought, ‘This is someone else’s son, and I just know that mother’s heart is going to be broken.’”
True, but we are all afforded choices in this life — and it is up to us to make the right ones. And in case we fail to make the right ones, we must inevitably face the consequences, some of which can be lethal.
As of Monday, no arrests had yet been made, though the case is headed to the Tarrant County district attorney’s office for review.
According to Amber Wallace, another neighbor, car burglaries were unusual in her neighborhood.
“It’s just sad that a teenager doing something stupid ends up dead,” she added.
This also was true, but again, we all need to make the right decisions.
