The “A Day Without a Woman” protest probably sounded like a good idea to liberals, but the more we learn about the event, the more it just looks like a big failure.
Video from the march on Wednesday revealed an irony of ironies as it showed a man leading the chants for a women’s gathering at Freedom Plaza in Washington, D.C. The Washington Free Beacon identified the man as self-described “black queer feminist” Preston Mitchum, a policy research analyst at the Center for Health and Gender Equity.
“When abortion rights are under attack, what do we do?” Mitchum yelled to the crowd.
“Act up, fight back!” the crowd responded.
“When trans lives are under attack, what do we do?” Mitchum asked.
“Act up, fight back!” the crowd answered.
“When women’s lives are under attack, what do we do?” quoth the cheerleader.
“Act up, fight back!” the crowd repeated again. Take a look, if you dare:
The protest was intended to be a strike during which women would “refrain from paid and unpaid work” and “refrain from shopping in stores or online” to highlight their economic power and significance.
Liberals have some serious problems with this matter. Feminists fought for decades for women to have a place in the work force, and insisting they stay home is no way to recognize them and their importance to society.
And shopping? Really? That’s the contribution from women that feminists want to highlight — shopping?
Not to mention there’s something about a man leading a woman’s march that is just weird.
