After their community was liberated from Islamic State terror group, locals in Telekuf-Tesqopa, located just outside Mosul, Iraq, erected a symbol that will have liberal stomachs turning.
They raised a giant cross to mark the Christian victory.
The Catholic News Agency reported that on Feb. 18, Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Baghdad Louis Sako visited the area and blessed the cross. He also participated in a Mass at Saint George Church after two-and-a-half years of living under the terror group.
“This is our land and this is our home,” he told believers at the Mass. He added that it was time to begin a new stage of life.
After the Mass, people set off fireworks and celebrated with with cries of victory.
Sako said the cross would tell the world that “this is our land, we were born here and we will die here. Our ancestors were buried in this pure land and we are going to remain to preserve them with all our might and for future generations.”

EWTN News reported that Christians erecting crosses have become a recurring occurrence since the Iraqi Army began the offensive to recover the Islamic State stronghold in Mosul.

Some liberated Muslims have also reportedly participated in the raising of crosses. Last week, a group of Muslim youths helped clean a church in east Mosul dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
All of these actions are part of a campaign to remember the religious coexistence that the city experienced before the jihadists occupied it in 2014.
While this kind of freedom will make the left sick, there isn’t anything much more awesome than seeing crosses being erected in areas where Christians once suffered deadly persecution.
