Kellyanne Conway, the Trump train engineer who helped lead the incredible upset in last week’s election, had a message for Hillary Clinton’s claim to her supporters that the FBI was responsible for her loss.
It was simple: “Look in the mirror.”
Conway, speaking on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on NBC, said Clinton’s FBI claim was part of her pattern of refusing to take responsibility for anything that happened during the campaign.
“I just can’t believe it’s always somebody else’s fault. Sometimes you just have to take a look in the mirror and reflect on what went wrong,” Conway said.
She noted that the weekend before the election, Team Clinton was claiming Comey’s action’s were largely irrelevant to voters’ choices, that “people already incorporated the email scandal into their voting decisions.”
“What about the fact that they just got it wrong?” Conway said. “What about the fact they weren’t in touch with Americans, and the culture zeitgeist, and what motivates many Americans?’
According to The New York Times, Clinton made the statement Saturday in a 30-minute conference call with donors.
“There are lots of reasons why an election like this is not successful,” Clinton said. However, she ultimately concluded that “our analysis is that Comey’s letter raising doubts that were groundless, baseless, proven to be, stopped our momentum.”
Comey, by the way, cleared Clinton of any wrongdoing in the case two days before Election Day, even though it would have been wholly impossible for the FBI to go through the 650,000 emails found on Anthony Weiner’s computer before the election.
This would have, theoretically, given Clinton a boost going into last Tuesday, assuming America was willing to believe the whole investigation was that dastardly right-wing conspiracy at work yet again.
Hillary can get as angry at she wants to over what Kellyanne Conway said, but what she fails to realize is that most of the the polls were simply wrong. The people who said they were going to vote for her instead of Trump? They weren’t. The left’s propagandists had done an excellent job of making it socially unacceptable for some Americans to say they were Trump supporters, but they had done nothing to change any hearts or minds.
And how could they? All Hillary Clinton had to offer was that she a) wasn’t Trump and b) refer to a). When she did make vague stabs at supporting policies, they were hugely unpopular — like expanding Obamacare and continuing to allow partial-birth abortion.
Clinton’s post-hoc analysis of all of her troubles reveals she believes — or at any rate, wants her supporters to believe — that they’re all the result of some dastardly conservative with black-hearted malice lurking behind a curtain somewhere. This isn’t new or unique to her loss in Tuesday’s election. It has repeated itself throughout her quarter-century in the political spotlight — with the predictability of bad airline meals.
As for Conway’s advice, unfortunately, the mirror in Secretary Clinton’s house is used only when she wants to take a good look at the only person whose opinion matters to her. Any other time, it’s merely an inoperative decoration.
