Kaepernick Gets Roasted During Trump Rally

During a rally in Louisville, Kentucky, on Monday night, President Donald Trump took a swing at former San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who made himself a household name even outside the NFL last year by repeatedly taking a knee during the pregame playing of the national anthem.

Trump said he happened to see a news article about how NFL owners were reluctant to pick up the controversial player because they “don’t want to get a nasty tweet from Donald Trump” and said he wanted to share that with the people of Kentucky because “they like it when people actually stand for the American flag.”

The president got a round of applause for this comment because most Americans agree that the flag should be saluted when “The Star-Spangled Banner” is played.

Take a look:

Most right-thinking people also agree that actions have consequences. During his protests, Kaepernick probably did not give much thought to how he was creating more of a controversy than making a point about American culture, or that a wealthy, overpaid sports star whining about inequality might be offensive to everyday people just trying to make a living.

Besides, sports fans do not watch their favorite sporting events to have politics thrown in their faces.

Kaepernick is learning that actions have consequences. His choice to refuse to stand for the national anthem has caused teams to turn away from him because it’s not good business, not to mention the fact that it put him in the cross-hairs of the president, who had a little fun at his expense.

The free agent did announce that he would no longer take a knee during future games, but that may be a moot point if he cannot find a team to hire him.

Hopefully, the football star has a better understanding of how the real world works and, for his own sake, won’t make himself a target by taking up silly issues in the future.
