Iraq War Vet Blows Up on Schumer: “8 Years Ago I Was Getting My A** Shot at in Afghanistan”

Iraq War Vet Blows Up on Schumer 8 Years Ago I Was Getting My A Shot at in Afghanistan

Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer learned the hard way last week why making a promise you can’t necessarily keep is a bad idea — and why then trying to justify your broken promise with a flimsy excuse is even worse.

Writing for The Weekly Standard, Stephen F. Hayes explained that Schumer had agreed earlier this month to a trade-off in which Rep. Mike Pompeo’s confirmation hearing as CIA director would be delayed for a day in return for Schumer and his colleagues confirming Pompeo by voice vote on Inauguration Day.

When Inauguration Day arrived, however, Schumer’s colleague Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., demanded that the confirmation vote be delayed until Monday.

This in turn triggered a heated exchange between Schumer and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a noted military veteran who fervently believes that a man should always stick to his word.

During the tiff, Schumer argued that the Senate had never before confirmed a CIA director on Inauguration Day. According to Hayes, Shumer also rudely slammed Cotton, saying that if Cotton had he been around the Senate eight years earlier, he would know that Republicans had similarly prevented then-President-elect Barack Obama’s CIA pick from being confirmed on Inauguration Day.

Eight years ago, I was getting my ass shot at in Afghanistan,” Cotton snapped back. “So don’t talk to me about where I was eight years ago.”

Ouch. But the feud was not over yet.

When Cotton questioned Schumer about why he had gone back on his word, the New York senator claimed that he had only been speaking for himself.

“I said that I would not block him,” Shumer said, according to Hayes. “I’m not telling Ron Wyden to do this. Why don’t you go talk to Wyden?”

What a jerk. Apparently, Chuck Schumer is not a man who sticks to his word. He is instead a liar, a deceiver and a con artist. It is no wonder he fits in so perfectly with the Democrat Party.

As for Pomeo, he was eventually confirmed and sworn in Monday, according to NBC News. Of course, this could have happened on Friday, but God forbid that Schumer stick to his word.
