These days, it can be difficult to come up with a proposal idea that is cute and original. Most are caught on film or through photos now, and oftentimes the creativity of the proposal is gauged by viewer’s comments.
“That is the most precious way to ask for your hand in marriage. Biblical!” Cindy Passmore Nichols commented.
Casey Oliver Johnson said “I WOULD DIE. I’m literally dying right now. And crying. This is so thoughtful and planned out…10/10.”
The proposal they were referring to had just been shared on the Lace Cakes Facebook page. The Sentinel, Oklahoma cake company had set up a contest with the most popular entry getting a free cake.
As she tells it, she had just graduated. Her boyfriend said he had gotten her a gift, a special gift.
She was excited, of course, and peppered him with questions about what it was. Despite the barrage of questions, he stayed strong and would not give in. No tips, no clues, nothing.
She continued to press him. He had a plan though: he wanted to give it to her later when all of their family members and friends were there.
Her mind reeled. What could it be?
Finally, he relented and said he wanted to give it to her now. He handed her an unwrapped box.
The excited woman could see that it was a Bible. But when she opened it, she was gripped by confusion.
The man had the Bible monogrammed, but he had her first name and his last name placed on it. “Open it,” he assured her.
It was the Gospel of Mark. Mark 10:5-9, to be exact.
The passage reads, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
At the end of the bookmark to that page? A ring.
“You are the answer to all my prayers,” he said to her. “Will you be my wife?”
“Yes!” was the woman’s response. We can only hope their new life together continues to progress as beautifully as it started. Congratulations, you two!
