When Donald Trump was elected president, he was elected in part to build a wall along our southern border. And if Trump’s secretary of homeland security has anything to do with it, it’s going to be built quickly.
In an interview with Fox News, DHS Secretary and retired Marine Gen. John Kelly said that he hoped to get the wall constructed within two years.
“The wall will be built where it’s needed first, and then it will be filled in. That’s the way I look at it,” Kelly said. “I really hope to have it done within the next two years.”
The remarks came during a visit to McAllen, Texas, with a Fox News crew as Kelly was meeting with Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Any discussion about the protection of our southwest border involves discussion of physical barriers but also of technological sensors, things like that,” Kelly said. “But it’s a layered approach, and it’s got to be backed up by great men and women who are going to make sure that the wall is intact.”
Kelly also said he thought funding for the wall will be forthcoming from Congress.
“I think the funding will come relatively quickly and, like I said, we will build it where it’s needed first as identified by the men and women who work the border,” the DHS chief said.

House Speaker Paul Ryan echoed those sentiments in a Thursday interview.
“We have already authorized this, meaning the law was passed almost 10 years ago,” the Wisconsin Republican said, according to RealClearPolitics.
“And then we will give the financing to Secretary Kelly and the border security plan. So, it’s really up to them as to how fast they can execute this policy. I think that’s great. He’s the kind of guy that can get this sort of thing done. He will have the funding to do it and he already has the authorization to do it.”
Awesome news for everyone who wants to see the wall built.
