Gary Sinise Spends Thanksgiving Serving Troops Dinner

It’s President Obama’s last year in the White House, and he tried to do Thanksgiving with a bang. The only problem is that actor Gary Sinise outdid him, and proved just how Obama’s PR-scripted turkey day was nothing compared to what real heroes were doing.

Sinise is best known for playing Lt. Dan Taylor in the movie “Forrest Gump.” His work with our veterans is even more epic, including providing a “smart home” for a disabled vet and doing numerous fundraisers with his “Lt. Dan Band.”

On Thanksgiving, instead of being with his family in the comfort of home, Sinise decided to travel to Afghanistan in order to serve American troops stationed there.

Americans noticed a certain incongruity in Sinise going over to Afghanistan, especially considering who was in Washington D.C. at the time…

In fact, Barack Obama and his family did serve Thanksgiving dinner to vets, but they did it in the confines of Washington. According to USA Today, they went to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in the nation’s capital, where they would dole out meals to retirees. Not bad, but it didn’t cause the president much inconvenience to put on an apron for a staged photo op so close to home.

In fact, Obama has never once visited a conflict zone for Thanksgiving. His predecessor, George W. Bush, went over to Iraq for turkey day in 2003, according to The Political Insider. And while Obama has visited war zones, his diligence has not been quite as great as the man who came before him. He’s made notably fewer trips to Iraq and Afghanistan than George W. Bush did.

So, what did President Obama do during the holiday week instead? On Tuesday, according to The New York Times, he awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a list of celebrities that seemed to feature an conspicuous number of prominent liberals.

On the list were Robert Redford, Ellen DeGeneres, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bruce Springsteen. He also introduced Michael Jordan as “the guy from ‘Space Jam.’”

“Dad jokes” were also on the menu when Obama did the annual turkey pardoning last Wednesday, according to NPR.

“We should also make sure everyone has something to eat on Thanksgiving. Of course, except the turkeys, because they’re already stuffed,” the president told an assumedly groaning press. “When somebody at your table tells you that you’ve been hogging all of the side dishes, you can’t have any more, I hope that you respond with a creed that sums up the spirit of a hungry people: ‘Yes, we cran.’”

That’s how our president spent his Thanksgiving week. Compare that with Gary Sinise. It doesn’t look too good, does it?
