In First Post-Election Interview, Trump Describes Congratulatory Calls From Bill And Hillary Clinton

In a preview of President-elect Donald Trump’s first interview since his upset Election Day victory, the New York businessman shared some details of a post-election conversation with his rival’s husband, former President Bill Clinton.

Trump, whose full interview can be seen Sunday night on CBS’ 60 Minutes, said the conversation was exceedingly cordial.

“He couldn’t have been more gracious,” the former reality television host said of the 42nd president.

Clinton complimented Trump on his “amazing run” against his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“One of the most amazing he’s ever seen,” Trump said, describing Clinton’s assessment of his unorthodox campaign.

Trump went on to describe Clinton as “very, very, really, very nice” before praising his political acumen.

“Well, he’s a very talented guy,” Trump said of the former president. “I mean, this is a very talented family.”

When asked by interviewer Lesley Stahl if he would call Clinton for advice from the Oval Office, Trump confirmed he would “certainly think about that.”

The president-elect also described the call he received from Hillary Clinton, calling it “lovely” and acknowledging the fortitude it took for her to make it.

“It was a tough call for her,” he said. “I mean, I can imagine, tougher for her than it would have been for me.”

Trump said his recently bitter rival “couldn’t have been nicer” in her call to congratulate him.

He said he likewise congratulated the former first lady for being a “great competitor,” describing her to Stahl as “very strong and very smart.”
