Do you want to build that wall? Well, now you can — literally, if you have the equipment and the bid is right.
A bid announcement from the Department of Homeland Security stated that the agency planned to put out a solicitation for contractors to construct the wall and will begin accepting bids electronically next month.
“The Dept. of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection intends on issuing a solicitation in electronic format on or about March 6, 2017, for the design and build of several prototype wall structures in the vicinity of the United States border with Mexico,” the announcement on the Federal Business Opportunities website read.
“The procurement will be conducted in two phases, the first requiring vendors to submit a concept paper of their prototype(s) by March 10, 2017, which will result in the evaluation and down select of offerors by March 20, 2017. The second phase will require the down select of phase 1 offerors to submit proposals in response to the full RFP (request for proposal) by March 24, 2017, which will include price. Multiple awards are contemplated by mid-April for this effort. An option for additional miles may be included in each contract award.”
You can just hear the snowflakes melting, can’t you?
The bid announcement was released Friday but was overshadowed by President Donald Trump’s CPAC speech and the administration’s latest tiff with its good friends over at CNN.
Trump also used his CPAC speech to tout the progress his administration had made on the wall, according to Time.
“We’ve defended other nations’ borders while leaving ours wide open, anybody can come in. We’re going to build a wall, don’t worry about it,” Trump said. “We’re building the wall. We’re building the wall. In fact, it’s going to start soon. Way ahead of schedule, way ahead of schedule.”
Yes, he is — and you can bet that isn’t going to make the left happy.
