Robert Gehl reports defenders of public funding for Planned Parenthood justify the hundreds of thousands of abortions they perform annually like to point out all the breast cancer screenings they perform.

Like that makes it all okay, right?

Except it’s a lie.

Hillary Clinton made the same comments during the third Presidential debate Wednesday night, claiming that Planned Parenthood “provides cancer screenings” and should still receive taxpayer money.

As Breitbart reports, this is “mostly false.

The idea that Planned Parenthood provides these kinds of services – like mammograms – is “highly misleading” because they don’t actually administer the procedures. They only provide referrals to other facilities who can actually do the screenings.

The Washington Post put it thusly: “Rather, the situation is similar to other clinics where patients are referred to a licensed facility that can provide biopsies, X-rays or other specialized services. It is slightly more accurate to say that women have “access” to mammograms via Planned Parenthood, though it’s still slippery language.”

In their defense, Planned Parenthood does provide Pap Smear tests and HPV testing, which can screen for cervical cancer, but they most certainly do not screen for breast cancer.

At the debate, Clinton promised to continue to support Planned Parenthood from proposed de-funding and reiterated her support for Roe v. Wade.

Trump replied to Clinton’s complete support for late-term abortions in graphic, yet accurate, terms:

“It’s terrible if you go with what Hillary’s saying, the ninth month, and rip the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby. You can say that’s OK, Hillary can say that’s OK, but it’s not OK with me.”

Clinton responded that is “not what happens in these cases,” and said Trump “using that kind of scare rhetoric is terribly unfortunate.”

Traveling the world as Secretary of State, Clinton said she went to countries where “the government either forced women to have abortions, like they used to do in China, or forced women to bear children, like they used to do in Romania, and I can tell you the government has no business in the decision that women make in their families in accordance to their faith with medical advice, and I will stand up for that right.”

Just four days ago, Clinton reiterated her commitment to Planned Parenthood, claiming they do “cancer screenings.”

This lie that Planned Parenthood provides breast cancer screenings goes back many years. Back in 2012, Barack Obama made the same claim during a debate with Mitt Romney.

“Governor Romney said he’d end funding for Planned Parenthood, despite all the work it does to provide women with mammograms and breast cancer screenings.”

At least they’re being consistent with it.
