Buffett: America Will ‘Work Fine’ With Trump In The White House

Buffett America Will Work Fine With Trump In The White House

Warren Buffett supported Democrat Hillary Clinton over now President Donald Trump, raising money for her campaign and criticizing Trump.

But now, the billionaire investor said Trump’s ascension to the White House will not erode the fundamental underpinnings of American success.

“I’ve said this before, but America works,” he said Thursday in an interview with CNBC. “It’ll work wonderfully under Hillary Clinton, and I think it’ll work fine under Donald Trump.”

Although Buffett said Trump now takes up “the most important job in the world,” he said there is more to America than the person in the White House because America has the “secret sauce.”

“It doesn’t work all the time perfectly,” he said. “But you just look at where we go, milestone after milestone. Never bet against America.”

Buffett said no road to success is ever smooth.

“There will be hiccups from time to time in the economy,” Buffett said. “… we’ll do well over time.”

In a separate interview, Buffett said he supports Trump’s right to Cabinet picks.

“I feel that way no matter who is president,” he said. “The CEO — which I am — should have the ability to pick people that help you run a place.”

“If they fail, then it’s your fault and you got to get somebody new,” Buffett said. “Maybe you change cabinet members or something.”

Buffett was among the first to urge Americans to recognize the results of the election and respect Trump.

“That doesn’t mean we can’t criticize him or they can’t disagree with what he’s doing maybe,” he said then. “But we need a country united. He deserves everybody’s respect.”

Although Trump still faces a divided nation, Buffett said Thursday that approval ratings now have little meaning.

“It’s what you go out with that counts — 20, 50 years later what people feel you’ve achieved,” Buffett said.

Buffett said that from his perspective, the major challenge facing the nation is to help “the people that haven’t participated in our incredible prosperity.”

“If they work 40 hours a week, they should have a decent life,” Buffett said. “That’s the most important thing in terms of the economy.”
