No issue was more vital to winning Donald Trump the presidency than immigration. The promise of finally restoring sanity to a system both parties had deliberately neglected for years resonated with so many Americans that they decided to take a chance on him despite a litany of of other issues with the real estate mogul. This is the promise it’s most important for Trump to deliver on, and it looks like he’s not wasting any time in delivering on it.
President Donald Trump was expected to sign several executive orders restricting immigration on Thursday, at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to several congressional aides and immigration experts briefed on the matter.
Trump’s orders were expected to involve restricting access to the United States for refugees and some visa holders from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, said the aides and experts, who asked not to be identified.
Further details are scarce at the moment, but will surely surface before too long. Trump took intense heat during the campaign for advocating a temporary halt to Muslim immigration, at least until some reliable method of screening out would-be terrorists and jihadist sympathizers could be devised.
Leftists in all corners screamed “racism” and “Islamophobia,” but their posturing largely fell on deaf ears, as the electorate decided that not being killed was worth risking the New York Times’ disapproval and the hurt feelings of foreign nationals with no legal right to enter the United States in the first place.
This is just one small part of plugging up our leaking immigration system, but it’s one of the most important. Here’s hoping that President Trump is just as aggressive at cleaning up the rest of it, because basic sanity is long overdue.
