If anyone should know that border walls work, it’s Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After all, Israel’s border wall has worked out well for Netanyahu’s country — and he’s giving support to the president who’s trying to make one happen at our porous southern border.
In a Saturday night tweet, Netanyahu called President Donald Trump’s proposed wall a “great idea.”
“President Trump is right. I built a wall along Israel’s southern border. It stopped all illegal immigration,” the tweet read. “Great success. Great idea.”
The tweet was also adorned with both Israeli and American flags.

Israel’s border wall has been successful in stopping illegal immigrants, according to the Jerusalem Post, which reported that “the fence has already slashed the number of illegal African migrants arriving in Israel, with only 213 breaching the barrier in 2015.”
A report claims that further strengthening of the fence “significantly curbed the flow of illegal infiltration into Israel, with only 11 successful attempts to cross the fence throughout 2016.”
Fox News reports that President Trump signed the executive order authorizing construction of the fence, which is expected to cost between $8 billion to $20 billion, on Wednesday.
“Beginning today, the United States of America gets back control of its borders,” Trump said. “We are going to save lives on both sides of the border.”
The border wall is a controversial idea, and I doubt that Netanyahu’s statement is going to make it any less contentious. However, there’s one thing that we can learn from Israel’s example: Border walls work.
No matter how much the left might have told us that a fence wouldn’t keep illegal immigrants, drug smugglers or terrorists out, experience tells us otherwise. We need some form of border security, and while Israel’s problems may be vastly different than ours, the approach to solving them ought to be similar.
