An Arkansas state lawmaker has introduced a bill that would force the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock to be renamed after someone besides either former President Bill Clinton or his wife, failed 2016 Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Available for review via the Arkansas Public Legislature, SB430 would specifically prevent structures paid for “in whole or in part with public funds” from being named after a living individual who was elected to office within the 10 years proceeding the structure’s construction.
However, the bill’s author, state Rep. Jason Rapert, has made it very clear that his primary targets were the Clintons.
“You have a president who was impeached for having an affair with an intern in the Oval Office and then disbarred,” he said, referencing Bill Clinton’s troublesome past, according to Reuters.
Former President Clinton was impeached in 1998 by the U.S. House of Representatives after he obstructed justice by lying under oath about a sexual relationship he had with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
While it is true that Clinton was acquitted by the Senate a year later, the demons from his past have continue to haunt him, with numerous women having since come out of hiding to accuse him of sexually harassing or even raping them.
For an airport to be named after either Bill Clinton or his wife, who evidence has shown maliciously targeted her husband’s accusers, is very unbecoming, though some would undoubtedly disagree.
“People do not enjoy the fact that the airport, the gateway to Arkansas, is named after someone who literally no one else would want to honor,” Rapert added in a statement to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. “I think Arkansas is just weary of the Clinton baggage.”
Who wouldn’t be? Perhaps partisan hacks like Little Rock’s Democrat mayor, Mark Stodola, who said he was “very disappointed” with the bill and would “respectfully disagree” with Rapert’s statement regarding the Clintons.
But at least his reaction was reasonable. In response to this bill, as well as a couple others proposed by Rapert, some liberals have started a Change.org petition demanding that the city of Conway, which is where the senator lives, rename its sewage tanks after him, according to KTHV. Sounds mature …
