Kamala Harris’ campaign has been strategically working to unsettle Donald Trump ahead of Tuesday’s debate, airing a series of back-to-back ads in Philadelphia that take aim at the former president. But their efforts go beyond just the airwaves. The Harris campaign plans to bring former Trump officials to the debate on Tuesday night.
Former Trump insiders Anthony Scaramucci and Olivia Troye, both of whom now support Harris, will hold a press event at the debate venue. According to the campaign, they will “speak out against Trump and in favor of Harris ahead of tonight’s debate.”
This move builds on an ad released earlier in the week, which featured former Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley. These prominent figures, who worked closely with Trump, warn the public against a second Trump term.
“Don’t just take our word for it,” said Michael Tyler, Harris-Walz 2024 communications director. “Listen to those who know Donald Trump best, and who are sounding the alarm about how unfit he is to serve as president.”
Meanwhile, President Biden is spending his debate day engaged in the duties of his office. While he was originally expected to be the candidate at the top of the ticket when debate planning began, Biden is no longer in the race. Instead, on Tuesday, he’s welcoming the University of South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team and the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team to the White House to celebrate their March Madness championships.
Later in the day, Biden will head to New York in preparation for Wednesday’s September 11 commemorations. According to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, Biden is “proud” of Harris and “looking forward” to watching her debate Trump from his hotel in Manhattan. The president and vice president will appear together on Wednesday to visit each site of the 9/11 attacks in New York City, Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the Pentagon.
In the coming months, Biden is expected to actively campaign for Harris, both promoting his own legacy and working to ensure her success in the November election.
In other news, former First Lady Melania Trump raised new questions about the assassination attempt on her husband’s life in a video posted Wednesday. In the video, she called the experience “horrible and distressing” and expressed concern about why law enforcement did not arrest the shooter before the incident.
“There’s more to the story,” Melania Trump said, adding that the lack of information about the incident has left her unsettled. The video is part of a series promoting her new book, which has kept her in the public eye despite her low profile during her husband’s 2024 campaign.

The head of the U.S. Secret Service resigned following the assassination attempt in July, which took place at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Kimberly Cheatle, the former director, faced criticism for security lapses after the shooter opened fire. She revealed to lawmakers that between two and five reports of a suspicious person had been made before the attack, but Trump was still allowed to go on stage.
