A Kansas woman was compelled to take a picture of something incredible she saw a soldier do while stopped at a stoplight at an intersection in Topeka Friday afternoon.

She wanted the world to see what she had witnessed, so she quickly snapped a shot of the scene: The serviceman had pulled his vehicle over to the side of the road to stop and talk to a homeless man sitting near an Interstate on-ramp.

Tammra Bose told WIBW she saw the soldier walk over to the homeless man, who appeared to have all of his possessions in piles around him. The unidentified soldier sat down and started talking with the man.

“I would love for the world to see this picture because it is worth more than a thousand words. It is so heartwarming,” Bose said. “I thought it was nice of the soldier to get out of his car and go talk to the man.”

We think it’s nice, too. While we don’t know what the two men said to each other, it appears from the photograph that the soldier listened intently to what the man had to say and might have even offered him assistance in some way.

Bose said she shared the photos on social media because she wanted to thank the soldier for his kindness.

We never get enough stories about the kindness of strangers — especially when they involve American servicemen and women, which they so often do.

One friendly gesture can literally change a person’s life, and actions like this can help restore some faith in a society that often seems filled with too much negative news.
