Comedienne Wanda Sykes probably thought an audience in Boston was a safe space for anti-Trump rhetoric. Unfortunately, she thought wrong.
According to the Boston Herald, the set ended so badly for Sykes that she walked off stage showing the middle finger to the people in the audience after finishing her set, all to a cascade of boos.
Sykes was appearing Saturday night at the Comics Come Home fundraiser at Boston’s TD Garden when she decided to go and unleash her rhetoric against President-elect Donald Trump, the Herald reported.
“I am certain this is not the first time we’ve elected a racist, sexist, homophobic president,” Sykes told the audience, who immediately turned on her.
Sykes wasn’t the only comedian who had problems trying to tell Trump jokes on Saturday night. Fellow comedian Nick DiPaolo experienced similar resistance from the crowd inside the Boston sports arena, the Herald reported. However, he didn’t melt down quite the way that Sykes did.
“(Expletive) you, (expletive) you, (expletive) you,” Sykes said to the audience. She lamely finished the set and then stormed off, giving the crowd the unmistakable sign that says “We’re number one!”

Sykes’ anti-Trump sentiment is not unique. We’ve seen plenty of people in the entertainment industry promise us how a Trump presidency would cause them to move outside of the United States (as if the fact that someone wants to leave the country if their candidate doesn’t win makes me more likely to listen to what they have to say).
What Sykes didn’t realize is that there are plenty of people who are tired of being called racist for exercising their right to vote and doing so against Hillary Clinton.
Boston is hardly a bastion of Trumpist thought. In fact, Massachusetts went to Hillary by a margin of 61 percent to 34 percent. That’s a positive sign that maybe Americans of all stripes are getting sick of ad hominem attacks against anyone who decides to support Donald Trump.
