One of the funnest things to watch on cable news these days is the Fox News program “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” where Carlson routinely brings on liberal guests and utterly humiliates them with facts, logic, reason and their own words.
Tuesday’s program was no exception, as Carlson hosted Joshua Horowitz of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence to discuss the astonishingly high murder rate in Chicago, a liberal city with some of the toughest gun control laws in the country, according to the Independent Journal Review.
Considering the 762 murders that had occurred in Chicago in 2016, the highest number in more than 20 years, Carlson asked what new gun laws specifically could have reduced that number, but Horowitz had no answer other than to blame the “lax” gun laws in other states like Indiana or Wisconsin.
Things really started going badly for Horowitz, though, when the topic of so-called “assault weapons” came up, as Carlson asked directly three times if Horowitz could tell him how many of the murders in Chicago had been committed by one of the dreaded scary black rifles, to which Horowitz had no answer again, as reported by The Daily Caller.
After ludicrously stating that “assault weapons make killing more lethal” — as if a rifle bullet could kill someone deader than one from a handgun — Horowitz attempted to nuance his response by claiming that such weapons don’t necessarily result in more shootings but in more deaths per shooting, though he offered no evidence to support that claim.
“OK, so Chicago, there’s 762 murders last year,” Carlson asked a second time. “How many were committed with so-called assault weapons?”
When Horowitz again failed to provide an answer, Carlson pressed: “Well you run a gun control website. What’s the answer?”
Horowitz finally conceded that he didn’t know the number, but nevertheless maintained that bans on such firearms, more stringent background checks nationwide and stronger federal laws against gun trafficking would significantly reduce the murder rate in places like Chicago, in the process tacitly admitting that his gun control laws would target law-abiding gun owners instead of the criminals who already don’t obey the laws already on the books.
Perhaps toying with him a bit, Carlson then asked Horowitz to define a “military-style assault weapon,” noting later that his description closely matched Carlson’s .30-06 deer-hunting rifle.
When Horowitz responded by talking about “thumbhole stocks” and “detachable magazines,” Carlson could barely suppress a laugh as he said, “Who cares what the stock is like? This suggests you don’t know much about guns to me.”

Gun control advocates are generally light on facts and heavy on emotion, and the folks at the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence are prime examples of that tendency. The garbage they spin based on their emotional response to gun crime simply doesn’t hold up when faced with facts, logic and reason.
