With 48 days to go until his inauguration, President-elect Donald Trump was thanking his supporters and settling scores with the mainstream media.
On the first leg of his month-long “Thank You Tour” Thursday evening, Trump relished the moment with the folks who put him there — working middle-class Americans.
Trump took the media to task for fueling racial division, underestimating the intelligence and determination of middle America, and being just plain WRONG about, well, everything, according to The Hill.
Maybe we should call this the “In Your Face” tour.
“(The mainstream media) was saying for months there was no way that Donald Trump can break that blue wall. We didn’t break it, we shattered that sucker,” crowed Trump to a delighted crowd of supporters.
He cited examples of systemic media bias: ABC News’ Martha Raddatz, who co-hosted a presidential debate, teared up during election coverage as a Trump victory became apparent. News outlets delayed calling Pennsylvania for Trump.
The relentless Trump-bashing throughout the campaign was extended to his supporters as well. Constant references to the insignificance of non-college educated voters in the “flyover states” caused an upset that has the media still playing Monday-morning quarterback.
And let’s not forget Trump rival Hillary Clinton referring to us as a “basket of deplorables.”
It is this false characterization of small-town, “heartland” mentality, according to New Republic, that caused the media to paint a one-size-fits-all picture of working-class political thought. A billionaire himself, Trump knew better.
He embraced the non-elite and brought a long-overdue message: You matter, and you can make a difference.
In closing, Trump encouraged every American to go big or go home.
“We are the nation that won two world wars, that dug out the Panama Canal, that put a man on the world and satellites all over space,” he said. “But somewhere along the way we started thinking small. I’m asking you to dream big again, and bold and daring things for your country will happen once again.”

This “Thank You Tour” hits the White House on Jan. 20, and every American needs to be on board.
