GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, one of the most polarizing candidates in American politics, has been painted by the media as hardhearted — but time and again he has proven that not to be the case.
A video from 2000 has re-emerged, showing Trump reaching out to a little girl with brittle bone disease on “The Maury Show” and providing financial assistance.
The 10-year-old girl, whose name was Megan, was only 32 inches tall at the time, and also unable to walk. Her mother wanted her to have a chance to meet a child like herself, and on “The Maury Show” she was given that chance. Tiffany, age six, joined her for a special segment of the show.
Donald Trump happened to see that footage and was touched by the girl’s situation.
Although he couldn’t make it to the show to talk to her, he did have something special for her when Megan returned to the show a second time.
In a video he made just for Megan, he said, “Hi, Megan, my name is Donald! You probably don’t know me, but I was watching Maury’s show the other day. You really hit me right here (in the heart).”
“I think you are so beautiful,” said Trump, “both inside and out, and I had a little something, a little gift I gave to Maury. He’s a friend of mine … I gave him a little gift for you, and I hope you and your mother have a good time with it.”
“You’re very special,” concluded Trump. “Keep that up; keep up that attitude. So good luck, and stay in touch.”
Enclosed was a check for an undisclosed amount, although from the host’s and Megan’s reactions, it was quite a large number.
Donald Trump’s soft spot for children is not hard to find when one looks for it. Recently at a rally he even brought up children with him, giving them kisses and asking them questions about themselves.
The media may continue to “forget” videos like that, but they’re still there.
