It may have been one of the first few stops on his victory lap of the United States, but President-elect Donald J. Trump’s event Thursday night in Cincinnati, Ohio, contained one of his most powerful and moving lines yet.
According to RealClearPolitics, Trump was speaking about globalization to the crowd. He pointed out why he thought “America first” was something that we ought to strive for, much to the chagrin of liberals.
“We hear a lot of talk about how we are becoming a ‘globalized world,’” Trump said. “But the relationships that people value in this country are local.”
“There is no global anthem. No global currency. No certificate of global citizenship. We pledge allegiance to one flag and that flag is the American flag,” Trump continued.
“From now on it is going to be: America First,” he added. “Never anyone again will any other interests come before the interest of the American people. It is not going to happen again.”

Trump, contrary to what liberals might insinuate, isn’t walling himself our the country off from the world. He’s simply saying that our interests ought to come first. Yet, this is reported in the mainstream media as a kind of isolationist retreat into early-20th century values.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is that Trump is doing his victory lap precisely because of politicians like Hillary Clinton who refused to put our country first when negotiating agreements like NAFTA or the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
We were told over and over again how these were inevitable, but just a few weeks of Trump being the president-elect and we can see that this isn’t true.
Just before the clip above, Trump told the audience that “when America is unified, nothing is beyond our reach. I mean that.”
He’s right. If we can unify, our best days are ahead of us.
