Tomahawk Missiles Launch From US Ships to Strike Syria

The U.S. Department of Defense has published video footage showing Tomahawk missiles being launched in the strike carried out Thursday evening on Syrian President Bashar Assad’s Shayrat Air Base.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the strike that evening in response to accusations that Assad had poisoned his own citizens with sarin gas during a military strike his military forces carried out Tuesday,  Fox News reported.

“It is in the vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons,” he said in a statement. “Tonight I call on all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria, and also to end terrorism of all kinds and all types.”

While the footage was an amazing display of American power, the comments below it were also deserving of attention.

“According to liberals and the media, Trump won the election because he’s ‘besties’ with Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and they continue to be ‘besties,’” one viewer wrote. “Well, Trump just bombed one of Putin’s ‘besties,’ Bashar al-Assad.”

Moreover, Russia was not pleased, as it reportedly released a statement following Trump’s strike deriding it as an “act of aggression,” suspending coordination with U.S. forces in Syria and vowing to assist Assad in shoring up his air defenses, according to the New York Post.

“Unfortunately this is the only language that dictators like Assad understand,” wrote someone else. “(H)e played with Obama but this president is a different kettle of fish … maybe North Korea better wake up and smell the coffee.”

She had a point. As noted by The Wall Street Journal, whereas Obama dithered for years “over military decisions and resisted years of calls for a deeper U.S. military involvement in Syria to help bring the conflict to an end,” President Trump demonstrated that he was “willing to use force and to make decisions swiftly when he is moved to act.”

In short, he iss willing to take quick and decisive action because he, unlike Obama, is a true commander in chief.
