During President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress this week, he took a few moments to pay tribute to late Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens, who died during a counterterrorism raid in Yemen, and to honor Owens’ widow, Carryn, in a moment that was widely heralded as the most touching part of the event.
Of course, there were those on the left who criticized the tribute, such as left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore, who told MSNBC after the speech that Carryn Owens had allowed herself to be “exploited” and used as a “prop” so Trump could send an “F-you” to his critics and detractors.
But that critique of Carryn Owens didn’t sit well at all with Taya Kyle, widow of the murdered “American Sniper” Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, who expressed her true feelings regarding those critics during an appearance on Fox News with host Martha MacCallum.
“You know, just listening to those clips I have this myriad of emotions going through me,” Kyle began. “It makes me sick to my stomach. It makes me angry, because he’s saying two things when he says that to me.
“That, A, she’s a fool and doesn’t know she’s being used — and that’s ridiculous, it couldn’t be farther from the truth — and it’s also saying that this wasn’t warranted, and that in some way this has to always be political,” she continued.
“I get the idea that it would be nice to say that everything is a political ploy,” Kyle added. “It totally negates, though, the meaning behind this. And the meaning of it for all the people watching who cried with her is that some valiant people are out there fighting — not for Republicans, not for Democrats — they’re fighting for this country and God bless them for doing it.”
MacCallum joined in for a moment as well and remarked, “I thought to myself, ‘There’s nothing poor about her,’ she’s incredibly strong, and she’s standing up there, you can see her breathing through, just trying not to cry.”
“She is anything but a ‘poor woman’ or a ‘poor widow,’” she said. “She has more strength in her little finger than most people would have in their lifetime. She’s lived a life where she had to be strong, and this is another step in her journey of being stronger than she wants to be.”

Taya Kyle, unfortunately, knows a thing or two about dealing with grief while also being thrust into the national spotlight, and can therefore totally relate to what Owens must have been going through while tribute was being paid to her late husband. And that’s something that her critics will never fully understand.
Hopefully, those who have been critical of this strong widow will be properly shamed for trying to score their own political points by attacking a grieving woman.
