Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, fell into a fit of laughter Monday when commenting on the “hypocrisy” of Hillary Clinton’s participation in a vote recount effort in Wisconsin.
Former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein filed a recount petition Friday with Wisconsin’s Election Commission and vowed to contest election results in Michigan and Pennsylvania as well.
Despite Clinton’s warnings that President-elect Donald Trump was actively attempting to undermine democracy before the election — by refusing a pledge to accept the results of the election — her campaign has joined the recount effort.
Scarborough and his co-host Mika Brzezinski discussed the double standard Monday, with Brzezinski trying, with little avail, to calm her colleague’s many objections and dismissive laughter.

Scarborough pointed out that Clinton and numerous national mainstream news outlets claimed before the election that if Trump refused to unconditionally accept the results of the election if he lost, he was undermining the will of the voters.
Brzezinski shushed Scarborough numerous times as she presented statements made by Trump and Clinton, and then displayed a number of news headlines published regarding Trump’s stated position to reserve his right to challenge a questionable election result.
“If Trump left his options open then he was undermining American democracy,” Scarborough said, reacting to the “hypocrisy” in Clinton’s willingness to participate in the recount.
Hiding his face behind a newspaper, Scarborough then belted a high-pitched laugh after his program aired a sound bite from Oct. 21, in which Clinton accused Trump of “threatening” democracy.
“He’s threatening our democracy if he does exactly what she is doing.”
Scarborough added: “[Trump] said, ‘I’m holding open my options and all legal rights to challenge anything’ … they’re going to try to move this around … all he did was leave open the option to do exactly what Hillary Clinton is doing.”
Scarborough then directed his ire at print media outlets, including The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.
“This, by the way, is why you’re all going out of business,” he said, addressing the national papers. “You still don’t get it. You’re still being hypocritical.”
During the Oct. 19 presidential debate in Las Vegas, Nev., Trump was asked by moderator Chris Wallace if he would accept the results of the election, should he lose.
“I will look at it at the time,” Trump said. “I will keep you in suspense.”
