A judge in Texas was sick of all of the liberal protesters and their Sharpie-scrawled “Not My President” signs. Instead of keeping quiet about it, though, he did the most Texas thing he could have — made sure that the immigrants he was swearing in as American citizens knew that Donald Trump was their president.
According to WFAA-TV, San Antonio Federal Judge John Primomo told the assembled people he was swearing in that Trump “will be your president and if you do not like that, you need to go to another country.”
“I can assure you that whether you voted for him or you did not vote for him, if you are a citizen of the United States, he is your president.”
Primono also bemoaned NFL stars and other sports figures who have disrespected the flag by remaining seated or taking a knee during the national anthem.
“I detest that, because you can protest things that happen in this country. You have every right to,” Primomo told the assembled courtroom. “You don’t do that by offending national symbols like the national anthem and the flag of the United States.”
KENS-TV said that he wanted his words to be a unifying force, and not divisive. While few liberals would agree, we think that he had the right idea.
As regular readers may perhaps have surmised, neither I nor anyone else on staff is particularly enamored of President Barack Obama. We have done everything possible to report his agenda for what it is and to advocate for a saner, conservative alternative.
However, I have never said that Barack Obama is “not my president,” nor would most of our writers. If we did, we would receive a strong letter in our inbox from our editor the next morning with a stinging rebuke.
No matter whom the American people elect, that is our president. By saying that Donald Trump isn’t, what you’re saying is that you don’t identify as American if things don’t go your way. That says a great deal about where your loyalties lie — and how seriously other Americans ought to take your protests.
