Detained Iraqi Says He Likes Trump in TV Interview at Airport

In the aftermath of President Donald Trump signing an executive order banning immigration from certain Middle Eastern countries for 90 days, Democrats all across the country descended on America’s airports en masse in an attempt to make a name for themselves.

More than 100 people were temporarily detained at some major airports while authorities tried to figure out how to deal with them under Trump’s order — which had been signed while a few of them were quite literally in the air on their way to America.

One of those people was Hameed Darweesh, an Iraqi who was an interpreter for the United States Army for 10 years and who was given an immigration pass by the government as a reward for helping our soldiers.

Darweesh was temporarily detained at New York’s JFK International Airport. When he was released, he gave an interview with the media in which he shocked a lot of people — including New York Rep. Nydia Velazquez, a Democrat who was standing right next to him.

A picture of Velazquez is included below to help identify her in the videos.

“I like him,” Darweesh said when asked what he thought about Trump.

The look of shock on Velazquez’s face was priceless.

“America is the greatest country, the greatest people in the world,” Darweesh said at another point in the interview, while Velazquez shook her head. You can watch the video here:

The New York Daily News noted that Darweesh was held for 18 hours and released on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Below is the same interview with Darweesh, but from a different angle that shows Velazquez’s face much better.

While people like Darweesh — people who risked everything to help us — should be allowed in this country, his detention was simply the accidental byproduct of the effort to implement Trump’s executive order as quickly as possible so terrorists wouldn’t take advantage of any grace period.

Trump himself noted that on Monday morning on Twitter, when he wrote that trying to give a week’s notice before implementing the ban might have caused a surge in terrorists attempting to gain access to America.

“If the ban were announced with a one week notice, the ‘bad’ would rush into our country during that week,” he wrote.

Ultimately, this ban will make America safer, even if it caused some confusion for a few days. Liberals just need to accept that they are no longer in Obama’s America. From now on, it’s America first.
