Dem Senator Tries to Bait Gen Mattis Gets SHUT DOWN With 1 Sentence Instead

They don’t call him Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis for nothing.

The retired general is Trump’s pick for defense secretary, and like most Trump picks, the Democrats are trying their hardest to make him look as bad as possible. However, the highly decorated military man was not having any of it and managed to destroy one of his questioners in just one sentence.

According to The Daily Caller, the incident happened when New York Democrat Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand asked Mattis a question about his feelings on LGBT individuals serving in the military.

“I’ve never cared,” Mattis told Gillibrand.

“Do you believe that allowing LGBT Americans to serve in the military or women in combat is undermining our lethality?” Gillibrand responded.

“Frankly, senator, I’ve never cared much about two consenting adults and who they go to bed with,” Mattis said.

“So the answer is no?” Gillibrand continued.

“Senator, my concern is on the readiness of the force to fight and to make certain it’s at the top of its game,” Mattis said.

“For the record, I’d like, in writing whether you believe gender or –“

That’s when John McCain interrupted, letting Gillibrand know that her time had expired:

Gillibrand, of course, is on a shortlist of possibilities for the 2020 Democratic presidential race, although her profile has lagged behind that of front-runners Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker. Nailing Mattis on national TV would have provided a springboard for her presidential aspirations.

Gillibrand, you may recall, was the senator who very publicly came out against Mattis receiving a waiver to serve as secretary of defense. According to The Hill, Gillibrand announced back in September that, “Civilian control of our military is a fundamental principle of American democracy, and I will not vote for an exception to this rule.”

Unfortunately for her, Mattis absolutely shut her down, being open but also noncommittal and sticking to what’s best for the military.

For all of Gillibrand’s desire to create a controversy, the “Mad Dog” made it clear that there wasn’t going to be any.
