“Fake news.” Those two words have been floating around cyberspace since November as liberals have tried to explain why President-elect Donald Trump won the general election.
Liberals have pointed fingers at alternative media sites for the fake news, but they are the ones who routinely publish unverified stories and then have to retract them.
The latest example of this came from The Washington Post, which had to correct a story in which it falsely claimed that the Russians had hacked into America’s power grid in Vermont.
The media world went crazy on Friday night/Saturday morning when liberal media outlets began making their claims about Russia and the power grid in Vermont, claims that if true would be cause for worry.
The only problem was that the Russians didn’t actually hack the power grid. A laptop was the only thing that was hacked — and the laptop was not even connected to America’s power grid.
“An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that Russian hackers had penetrated the U.S. electric grid. Authorities say there is no indication of that so far. The computer at Burlington Electric that was hacked was not attached to the grid,” read the correction at the top of the Post’s story on the incident.
Bloomberg noted that the code found in the laptop was one that had been used by the Russians before, which was partly what generated all the rampant speculation around the hack.
Much of the speculation around the hacking of the power grid came directly from the Post’s original story, which cited “unnamed sources” saying the hack had penetrated the power grid, the BBC reported.
Once again, the liberal media jumped the gun, published fake information, started a panic and had to issue a correction — and no one on the left seems to be outraged over this.
Maybe The Washington Post should try verifying its stories before publishing them.
